The old adage that you shouldn't mix metals is... well... old! We are in full support of mixing metal finishes and we're sharing our tips below on how to do so correctly! Tip 1. Selecting Your Metals! Curate 2 or 3 metals that work well together. Identify the properties of your finishes. Nickel, brass, and gold have warm undertones, while chrome and silver are cooler. While sticking to the same tone makes an easy fit, you can combine warm with cool finishes! Black goes with everything! Tip 2. Choose a Dominant and an AccentChoose a prominent metal finish you love, then select one or two accent metals to complete the look. Having a primary metal ensures your space a sense of unity, while accent metals will guide the eyes throughout the room. Tip 3. Separate by HeightKeep all the metals on a similar plane in the same finish. For example, use one metal for lighting fixtures and another for cabinet hardware and appliances, or one for mirrors and another for faucets. Tip 4. Create Balance!Spreading the dominant finish throughout the room gives mixing metals context. Be sure to ground the space with natural textures and woods to ensure the space feels warm and inviting! We are in love with the metallic grasscloth collection from Phillip Jeffries! It's even more beautiful in person. Stop by our Shop + Studio to see a sample for yourself.
